内容記述 | Various tree fruits grow in Southeast Asia including Thailand, and this region is considered one of the gene centers for tropical and subtropical fruit trees. The schedule for the exploration mission of fruit trees is arranged in Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) of Department of Agriculture (DOA) in Bangkok, and organized by five Horticultural Research Centers (HRC) (Phichit, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani, Sisaket and Chanthaburi). The team explored the middle west region around Phichit from Feb. 28 to Mar. 3, the border of north Thailand around Chiang Rai from Mar. 4 to 8, the Malay Peninsula near Surat Thani from Mar. 10 to 12, the middle east region around Sisaket from Mar. 14 to 17 and the border of east Thailand around Chanthaburi on Mar. 19 to 21. The middle west region around Phichit is almost plain area except the eastern part of Phichit, which are mountainous to an altitude of 1000m. The average minimum and maximum temperature are 23℃ and 27℃, resectivly. Annual rainfall is 1200mm. Climate condition is tropical with the rains and the drys. We collected 30 accessions of 13 species in this region. Of the 13 species, Bouea burmanica Griff., locally called 'Maprung', have orange to yellow colored peel and flesh, sweet and moderate sour, good flavor like mango, and 4 to 8cm fruit like a plum in shape. This fruit is not famous but has high quality and easy to eat. Phichit HRC has collected many landraces of 'Maprung' from all over its territory. Fruit size of some collections is about 10cm. Phichit HRC is trying to make this fruit a peculiarity of the region. North Thailand around Chiang Rai is a mountainous region. The average minimum and maximum temperature are 10℃ and 33℃, respectively. Annual rainfall is 1280mm. Climate condition is continental subtropical or temperate with the rains and the drys. We collected 17 accessions of 9 species in the region. Of the 9 species, locally called 'Siam plum' or 'Japanese plum', Elaeagnus sp., is has red to orange colored peel and flesh, strong sour, and 3.5 to 6cm fruit like a kiwi fruit in shape. The fruit is rather large in Elaeagnus, and considered good material for breeding material. 'Siam plum' and Dimocarpus longan Lour. are indigenous to north Thailand. Malay Peninsula region near Surat Thani is mountainous. The average minimum and maximum temperature are 25℃ and 29℃, respectively. Annual rainfall is above 3000mm. Climate condition is maritime tropical with much rain. We collected 9 accessions of 9 species in the region. Of 9 species, Averrhoa bilimbi L., Diospyros hasseltii Zoll., Parkia speciosa Hassk., Terminalia cheblula Retz., and Bouea oppositzfolia Adelb. are found only in this region. Averrhoa bilimbi L. is closely related to 'Starfruit'. Diospyros hasseltil Zoll. is nuts, Parkia speciosa Hassk. belong to Leguminosae, Terminalia cheblula Retz. is used for seasoning and medicine. Zalacca edulis Blume (Salak) are found only Surat Thani and Chanthaburi region. The rest of species are found all over Thailand. The middle east region around Sisaket is plain. The average minimum and maximum temperature are 22℃ and 33℃, respectivly. Annual rainfall is 1300mm. Climate condition is tropical with the rains and the drys. We collected 17 accessions of 9 species in this region. Of the 9 species, Baccaurea sapida Muell. -Arg., locally called 'Mafai'. The fruit cluster of 'Mafai' is composed from 30~40 fruis, like grape, each fruit 4cm diameter, yellowish white colored peel, milk-white colored flesh, sweet but rather sour. This fruit is indigenous to middle east Thailand. The border of east Thailand around Chanthaburi is mountainous. The average annual temperature is 27℃ and annual rainfall is 3150mm. Climate condition is maritime tropical with much rain. We collected 22 accessions of 15 species in this region. Of 13 species, Durlo zibethinus L. (Durian), Garcinia mangostana L. (Mangosteen), G. costata Hemsl., Lansium domesticum Jacq. (Langsat), Averrhoa carambola L. (Star fruit), Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan) are also found in Surat Thani. G. nervosa Miq., G. cambogiana Desr., G. hauburyi and Syzygium cuminii Skeels (Jambolan) are found only in this region. Fruit of Jambolan is 2cm and dark purple colored peel, and has juicy flesh, sweet but bitter taste. The south Thailand including Surat Thani and Chanthaburi is an important area of genetic resources for tropical fruit tree from the information of this mission. We expect more kinds of wild and local tropical fruit tree genetic resources in this region. | |||||
