| 内容記述 | The exploration mission was undertaken in Monobe-mura and Yusuhara-machi in Kochi prefecture from November 15 to 18 in 1993, in collaboration with Shikoku National Agricultural Experiment Station and Kochi Agricultural Research Center. A total of 85 seed samples which belong to 13 plant species were collected during the exploration. Seed samples collected include 17 of soybean (Glycine max), 16 of maize (Zea mays), 12 of azuki bean (Vigna angularis), 11 of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), 7 of common millet (Panicum miliaceum), 6 of foxtail millet (Setaria italica), 4 of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), 3 of barnyard millet (Echinochloa utilis), 2 of pea (Pisum sativum), 1 of scarlet runner bean (Phasealus coccineus), 1 of broad bean (Vicia faba) and 1 of Vigna angularis var. nipponensis. Landraces of soybean varies in the colors of seed coat which are yellowish white, pale green, green, reddish brown and black. They have been cooked with soybean sause and sugar, and processed to produce "tofu" (soybean cake), "miso" (soybean paste) and "shoyu" (soybean sause). There are two different groups of maize which are named "yashiki (house) -kibi" and "yama (mountain) -kibi" in Yusuhara. Corn powder ("konko") which is made from roasted mature seeds is a peculiar confectionery in this region. Landraces of kidney bean cultivated in Monobe and Yusuhara have nine different names based on its characteristics and usage. Young pods of kidney bean are used as fresh vegetable and its mature seeds are cooked for home use. Most of landraces in common millet, foxtail millet and sorghum are characterized. by glutinous endosperm. Their grains are ground and mixed with glutinous rice to cook "mochi" (rice cake). During the explorations in 1992 and 1993, it was recognized that the farmers in Kochi prefecture have maintained their own seeds of landraces of cereals and food legumes. | |||||
