内容記述 Results of constant pressure and constant volume direct shear box tests on normally and over-consolidated Kaolin clay are compared using a direct shear box test apparatus described in the designation of the Japanese geotechnical society (JGS T-560&561-1997). Normal force is measured on load-receiving plate against normal dead load and side friction between the soil specimen and inner wall of the shear box is estimated from difference to the normal dead load. The normal dead load is always larger than the force measured on the load-receiving plate in the constant pressure tests. In this case, the side friction is estimated from the difference between the two forces. In the constant volume test, the force measured on the load-receiving plate is larger than the normal dead load in almost cases of 0.2 mm shearing thickness; on the other hand, the former is smaller than the latter in many cases of 0.5 mm shearing thickness. The average normal force on the shear plane will be close to the resultant of the force measured on the load-receiving plate and the weight of the upper shear box when the force measured on the load-receiving plate is larger than the normal dead load. A composite correct method of vector-curve due to appearance condition of the side friction is proposed using the resultant force and the normal dead load. The maximum angle of shearing resistance of constant volume test is decided from the maximum ratio of [shear force/ compositely corrected normal force], and is shown good agreement to the result of the constant pressure test with corrected normal force. It is also noticed that the normal displacement of the shear zone in the constant volume test exceeds the allowable limit commented in the designation of the Japanese geotechnical society (JGS T-560-1997) because of the strain of the normal load-cell mounted at the load-receiving plate, and the validity of this test is discussed comparing to the result of the constant pressure test.
