The area of exploration is shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. We visited northern mountainous area near the border with China to investigate and collect local varieties. There live a lot of ethnic group people in this area. The main target of our visit was H'Mong groups, who have a custom of planting and eating azuki bean. We collected totally 58 samples of four species of legume crops : 19 azuki bean, 32 soybean, six common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), and one broad bean (Vicia faba) samples. Azuki bean samples included four seed-coat colors, red, mottled red, gray, and mottled gray.
