Between its two varieties, that are, var. ussuriensis and var. hondoensis , the latter was explored and collected in Yamanashi and Nagano Prefectures. A total of 27 individuals of this plant, as well as one individual of P. pyrifolia, were collected. It was remarkable that the wild individuals were rediscovered at Mt. Mitsutôge and Yamanakako-mura in the vicinity of Mt.
