From 1 of March to 30 of March, a collaborative exploration for unique germplasm was made in Kachin State, Sagaing Division, Magway Division and Mandalay Division in Myanmer. There are many landraces of sorghum. Typically, local farmers in Kachin State co-cultivate these resources with landraces of upland rice on the slope of mountains for food ; however, sometimes these materials may have a medical purpose. Generally, agriculture in Kachin State utilizes the slash and burn methodology. While, local farmers in Sagaing, Magway and Mandalay Division cultivated sorghum mainly for utilizing the stems and leaves for animal feed althogh the seeds were utilized for food 10 to 20 years ago when rice production was poor in Myanmer. In Kachin State, Magway and Mandalay Division, landraces of pearl millet mainly for forage use, and those of common millet and little millet for food are widely grown. This region also possesses many landraces of Italian (foxtail) millet, which exhibit a wide array of inflorescence forms. These regions also possess many landraces of maize, which are primarily utilized for food. In Kachin State and both Magway and Mandalay Division, maize germplasm resources exhibit white, yellow, purple and dark purple seeds. Waxy forms can also be observed. In addition, finger millet and job's tear are co-cultivated with upland rice. During this exploration, we collected 78 accessions of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) and S. sudanense (Piper) Stapf), 18 accessions of maize (Zea mays L.), 22 accessions of common millet (Setaria italica (L.) Beauv.), 15 accessions of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.) K. Schum), 3 accessions of Job's tear (Coix lacryma-jobi L.), 3 accessions of finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn), 3 accessions of common millet (Panicum miliaseum L.) and little millet (Panicum sumatrensis), 17 accessions of the other forage grasses and 16 accessions of forage legumes were collected.}, pages = {115--161}, title = {ミャンマー連邦カチン州, サガイン管区, マグウェー管区及びマンダレー管区等におけるソルガム等牧草遺伝資源の共同調査収集}, volume = {18}, year = {2002}, yomi = {ナカガワ, ヒトシ and サナダ, ヤスハル} }
