"Sandoguri" bears fruit twice or three times a year unlike the cultivated chestnut (C. crenata Sieb. et Zucc.). Survey and collection of wild chestnut were carried out at Okata town of Kochi prefecture, Hondo city and Matsubase town of Kumamoto prefecture, Aya town of Miyazaki prefecture and Kikugawa town of Shizuoka prefecture in 1991 and 1992. In addition to these areas, budsticks of wild chestnut "Sandoguri" were collected from Susaki city, Kubokawa town and Mihara village of Kochi prefecture. The budsticks from 29 wild chestnut trees including "Sandoguri" and local variety of C. crenata were collected during this exploration. The nut bearing habit of the collected accessions of wild chestnut was analyzed and was classified into three types, i. e, continuous, repeated and usual nut bearing habit. The wild chestnut trees which show continuous nut bearing habit were found at Okata town, Hondo city and Matsubase town. It was confirmed that they showed similar characteristics to C. seguinii Dode. Wild chestnut "Sandoguri" was distributed most extensively at Okata town, and plants of different types of nut bearing habit were found in this area. However, a rapid decrease of wild chestnut trees was observed in this area because of the inrease of plantation of acicular trees and arborescent trees. In the near future, there is a fear of disappearance of wild chestnut "Sandoguri" trees. Collected wild chestnuts are propagated by grafting, evaluated and preserved at Fruit Tree Research Station in Tsukuba.}, pages = {35--42}, title = {西日本地域における野生グリの収集}, volume = {8}, year = {1992}, yomi = {サトウ, ヨシヒコ and コトブキ, カズオ and アベ, カズユキ and サイトウ, トシヒロ} }
