 note = {In 1990 an exploration for the collection of wild relatives of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa DUCH.) around the northern and mountainous region of Japan was conducted. During the exploration indigenous diploid species of Fragaria, F. iinumae, F. nipponica, F. yezoensis, F. vesca and some Potentilla species were collected. The fruits of these Fragaria accessions were very small (less than 1.0 g) but displayed an attractive red color and a strong fragrance. Most of these accessions did not grow actively under hot conditions in the summer season in Kurume but the germination of the seeds was satisfactory.},
