A total of 55 accessions of parilla and sesame were collected during this exploration. Perilla is cultivated in mountainous areas and is locally used for the preparation of "Kushi-mochi" (a kind of cake with a dressing of ground perilla). Farmers did not cultivate sesame in Aomori Prefecture. However, perilla is widely cultivated in the northern part of the Tohoku region. We wish to collect the local varieties in other areas of Tohoku district.
