The concentration of ^<131>I in leafy vegetables, particularly spinach, significantly increased because of dry deposition caused by radioactive plume passed Tsukuba-city first after the accident. The contribution of wet deposition to the concentration of radionuclides in leafy vegetables was relatively small compared with dry deposition. Changes in the concentration of each radionuclide were different between spinach and komatsuna (Japanese mustard). Concentration of radionuclides in leafy vegetables did not substantially decrease after washing with water following the first precipitation.
