When the strains were grown on the sugar beet pulp during 57 days, arabinan was preferentially hydrolyzed by Her‒1, in contrast, the strain Her‒14 selectively degraded cellulose of sugar beet pulp. The activities of the crude enzyme solution which extracted from mushroom beds of each strains corresponded with their hydrolysis modes of sugar beet pulp. High α‒_L‒arabinofuranosidase activity was detected in the crude enzyme solution of Her‒1, in contrast, rather high cellulose degrading activity was detected in the crude enzyme solution of Her‒14. The both strains did not produced PNP‒α‒_L‒ rhamnopyranoside degrading enzymes suggested Her‒1 and Her‒14 could not hydrolyze pectin. These data indicated that the components of sugar beet pulp such as cellulose, pectin and arabinan would be possible to separate by using Her‒1 and Her ‒14.
