Direct sowing of rice in well dried paddy fields is expected to reduce farmers’ workload in spring and enable upland crop cultivation for lowland crop rotation.\nFor stable emergence, ground leveling is important in the process of cultivation. Ground leveling is required yearly as fields may change their levels. To reduce the workload of leveling in the subsequent spring season, we propose ground leveling for direct sowing of rice in well dried paddy fields to be performed after wheat harvesting in prior year. Doing so is estimated to reduce time spent on farming operations by 30% as compared to the conventional leveling method.
