The outbreaks caused by these viruses have been observed in Japan and severely affected Japanese livestock industry. Furthermore, Shamonda virus (SHAV) and Sathuperi virus (SATV) of the genus Orthobunyavirus have been isolated repeatedly in recent years in Japan, and are suspected causes of bovine abnormal deliveries. In this study, we have developed a new RT-PCR assay for easy and rapid detection of the above mentioned 5 orthobunyaviruses. All of 15 AKAV, 4 AINOV, 5 PEAV, 3 SHAV and 4SATV isolates were detected by the technique. The detection sensitivity was different in each isolates and was ranging from 10 to 1,000 TCID_50/ml.
