The impact of tillage and utilization of plastic mulch on hydrological processes have not been sufficiently clarified. In this report, the runoff ratio and infiltration rate were experimentally examined by five treatments of farmland management.\n The results of this study are as follows:\n i) The runoff ratios in the mulch treatments on the ridge with sweet potatoes were increased up to 25-28%, while the treatments were about 10% without mulch and for the reference treatment. The runoff ratio without mulch in the sweet potatoes was not significantly different from the reference (bare soil).\n ii) The mulch treatments with sweet potatoes had half the infiltration rate when compared with that of the treatment without mulch in the first half of the field test.\n iii) The infiltration rate gradually decreased according to the increase in cumulative rainfall energy. However, the infiltration rate increased once after three weeks of dryness. It was assumed that the formation of cracks on the surface of soil by the three weeks of dryness had recovered the decrease of the infiltration rate with the soil
