The land use for the catchment was shown as the paddy ratio, the dry field ratio, the housing ratio and the forest ratio. The numerical values of a correlation matrix were used to examine the relationship between water quality and land use of the irrigation pond catchments. During fine weather, positive correlations were significant at a 1% probability for the density of inorganic nitrogen (Inorg-N) in the dry field ratio and the housing ratio. The correlation was significantly negative at a 1% probability for the density of Inorg-N in the forest ratio. However, the correlation between the dry field ratio and Inorg-N was not significant the day before rainfall. Therefore, the land use ratio as related to Inorg-N was examined by multiple linear regression analysis. Results revealed the dry field ratio was the most important factor during fine weather and the housing ratio the most important during rainy
