Seeds of 18 cultivars of daikon were washed and soaked in water about 16 h, then the seed coat was removed with tweezers. The seeds were treated with 3% hydrogen peroxide at room temperature for 2 h and examined for blue pigmentation which indicates the presence of a precursor to the pigment. 'Fukuhomare' was used as a positive control and 'Taibyousoubutori' as a negative control. Rankings of seed bluing and root bluing were positively correlated (Kendall's rank-correlation coefficient=0.516, p<0.01).
