 note = {Akiakari' is an early maturing russet skin type new cultivar of Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) released in the year 2000 by the National Institute of Fruit Tree Science, National Agriculture and Bio-oriented Research Organization. It originated from crossing '162-29' ('Niitaka'×'Housui') and 'Nashi Hiratsuka 17' ('Kumoi'×'Kousui'), in 1984. It was selected as a promising tree in 1991, and had been subjected to the 6th local adaptability test as 'Nashi Tsukuba 45', conducted at 39 experimental stations of 37 prefectures in Japan. It was designated and registered as Nashi Norin 20 on October 25, 2000, and also registered as No. 11120 under the Seeds and Seedlings Law of Japan on March 17, 2003. The tree vigor is intermediate and exhibits medium amount of fruit spurs, though a little more than 'Kousui'. It is cross compatible with 'Kousui', 'Housui' and 'Gold Nijisseiki'. It blooms at the same time as 'Kousui' in eastern Japan and 'Housui' in western Japan. It ripens between 'Kousui' and 'Housui'. It is practically resistant to any kind of diseases and insect pests under the standard spraying program. The fruit is round in shape. It weighs about 400g on an average, larger than 'Kousui' but not as large as 'Housui'. The fruit quality is excellent the same as 'Kousui' and 'Housui'. Many fruit retain calyx at maturity. Shelf life is as long as 'Housui', but longer than 'Kousui'.},
