It originated from the crossing between '162-29' ('Niitaka' × 'Housui') and 'Kousui', made in 1985. It was selected as a promising tree in 1991, and had been subjected to the local adaptability test as 'Tsukuba 47', conducted at 36 experiment stations of 34 prefectures in Japan. It was designated and registered as 'Nashi Nourin No.19' in August 21, 1998 and also registered as No.9401 under the Seed and Seedlings Law of Japan in October 18, 2001. Tree is vigorous. It blooms as same time as 'Kousui' and cross-compatible with 'Kousui' 'Housui', 'Gold Nijisseiki' and 'Niitaka', but incompatible with 'Chikusui'. It ripens between 'Housui' and 'Niitaka'. It is resistant to black spot disease(Alternaria alternate Japanese pear pathotype) and also practically resistant to scab (Venturia nashicola)under the standard spraying program.Fruit is oblate in shape with russet skin,about 500g weight on an average. Fruit quality is excellent as same as 'Kousui' and 'Housui'.
