This variety is a non-glutinous rice variety with the high content of water soluble polysaccharides (WSP) and the high accumulation of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in germinated brown rice."Ayunohikari" was bred from the progeny of a cross between EM5 and Ouu 331 (named as "Fukuhibiki" later) in 1989.EM5 is a mutant line with high WSP content selected from "Kinmaze" treated with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) at the Kyushu University.From the F7 progenies,we selected one promising line and named Hokuriku 169,and submitted the line to various locations for evaluating local adaptability.Hokuriku 169 was officially registered as Paddy Rice Norin 405 in MAFF and in 2005 it was named as "Ayunohikari". Agronomic characters of "Ayunohikari" evaluated are as follows.The heading date is slightly later than "Koshihikari" and the ripening date is 7~9 days earlier than that variety to harvest at 30 days after heading for preventing pre-harvest sprouting.Comparing to"Koshihikari", the culm length is about 20 cm shorter,the panicle length is the same and the panicle number is less.The plant type of this variety is classified into semipanicle weight type.The shape of brown rice is slightly slender and 1000-kernel weight is estimated to be about 15g.The yield ability of "Ayunohikari" is low,about 60% of that of "Koshihikari", presumably due to the small weight of grain.The accumulation of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is much in germinated brown rice, the amount of GABA is about three times of that of "Koshihikari". As GABA is effective to normalize the blood pressure,the consumption of germinated brown rice in Japan has increased,recently."Ayunohikari" is possible to be used as processing healthy foods,such as rice ball and rice cake with germinated brown rice. "Ayunohikari" is estimated to possess true blast resistance genes,Pia and Pib. The field resistances for leaf blast is judged to be moderate resistance and that for panicle blast are not known.Tolerance to sprouting is very weak,and cool weather tolerance is weak. "Ayunohikari" can be grown in a region from Middle-Tohoku area to Kyushu area of Japan for new uses of brown rice.}, pages = {1--16}, title = {水稲新品種「あゆのひかり」の育成}, volume = {9}, year = {2007}, yomi = {ミウラ, キヨユキ and ウエハラ, ヤスキ and コバヤシ, アキラ and オオタ, ヒサトシ and シミズ, ヒロユキ and ササハラ, ヒデキ and ゴトウ, アキトシ and シゲムネ, アキコ and オオツキ, ヒロシ} }
