The proportion of petal colored area of 'Topic-blue' was 20% at 35℃, 32% at 25℃ and 100% at 20℃. Six μmol•g^-1FW of flavonoids were contained in the white area, and 28 μmol•g^-1FW of flavonoids and anthocyanins were contained in the colored area of the picotee petals at 35℃. At 20℃, the pigment content increased to 60 μmol•g^-1FW in all colored petals. The increase of colored area at 20℃ and difference of pigment composition and quantity between the white and colored areas of petals in the white marginal picotee variety were similar to the rim colored (popular in Eustoma) picotee varieties. Thus, the mechanism of suppression of pigment biosynthesis in the white area of both picotee patterns would be similar. Meanwhile, when petals were subjected to UV light to reveal the distribution of flavonoids, a flavonoidless pure white variety 'Bride-bell' was found among 60 white varieties. At 25℃ and 35℃, the pure white 'Bride-bell' petals contained less than 3 μmol•g^-1FW flavonoids. At 20℃, some pink colored flowers opened and they contained 40 μmol•g^-1FW flavonoids and anthocyanins.
